Question by redstaterandy: Are LIBERALS greedy & selfish?
(Why do not they give to Charity?)

Bible Belt most generous in charitable giving

“PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — New Englanders stay among the most
tightfisted in the country when it comes to charitable giving whilst
Bible Belt residents are among the most generous, according to an
annual index.
For the fourth year operating, New Hampshire was the most miserly
state, according to the Catalogue of Philanthropy’s Generosity
Index. Mississippi remained at the top for generosity.

The index, which takes into account both “getting” and “giving,” is
based on typical adjusted gross incomes and the value of itemized
charitable donations reported to the Internal Income Service on
2003 tax returns, the newest accessible.”

Conservatives are not a selfish lot

By ANDREW FERGUSON

“But what genuinely astounded him was the quantity of giving: In 2000, he
says, conservative households gave 30 percent much more income to charity
than liberal households.”

“It’s down the line,” he says. “Religious folks are 21 percent more
most likely to volunteer in explicitly secular causes. They are even twice
as likely to donate blood.”

http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/opinion/298992_givemoney10.html

Here’s a snippet:

Conservatives not only donate a lot more cash to charity than liberals
do, conservatives volunteer much more time as nicely. A lot more conservatives
than liberals also donate blood.

According to Professor Brooks: “If liberals and moderates gave blood
at the exact same rate as conservatives, the blood provide of the United
States would jump about 45 percent.”

Professor Brooks admits that the details he uncovered had been the
opposite of what he expected – so much so that he went back and
checked again.

In 1991 and 1995 (the year of the OK City Bombing when donations to
the Red Cross poured in) John F. Kerry had incomes of $ 113,857 and
126,179 respectively. In those two years, Kerry donated a whopping
total of, drum roll please – $ total to charity . No, that’s not a
misprint – its zip, zero, zilch, nil, nada, no mas, the big donut,
the collar (to use a baseball term).

As far as George W. Bush is concerned, in 1991, the future
president, then a private citizen, reportedly had revenue of
$ 179,591, and charitable contributions of $ 28,236. In 1992, Bush
reported income of $ 212.313, and contributions of $ 31,914. In 1993,
Bush reported revenue of $ 610,772, and contributions of $ 31,292. In
1994, Bush reported revenue of $ 474,937 and in 1995, income of
$ 419,481.

Dick Cheney – The ultimate ‘greedy’ republican!

“The Cheneys donated just under $ six.87 million to charity from the
stock alternatives and royalties from Mrs. Cheney’s books. That left
about $ 1.9 million in earnings on which the Cheney’s owed $ 529,636 in
taxes.”

    To assuage their guilt?

I give plenty to charity, and I also volunteer a lot of my time. Thanks for the generalizations, and the two points.

Why have you resurrected this old story?

For the umpeenth time, the statistics are skewed by counting church tithing as charity. I do not. I consider it political donations.

Besides, aren’t greed and selfishness Republican values?

There have been studies done that prove this point. Conservatives are more religious as a whole. They donate more to charity based on stronger religious conviction.

I don”t really think they are greedy. I think they believe it is government’s responsibility to take care of the poor and sick. Because of this they rally for more spending rather than directly donating money.

Why don’t they give to charity? Where’s your proof that they don’t?

I do, quite a lot, actually.

How much do YOU give to charity?

Saying Republicans give to charity is not proof that Democrats don’t.

Your assertion is flawed and ridiculous.

    Thank you.

Total baloney. But HERE is a fact for you:

“The states which benefit the most from federal expenditures are almost entirely the so-called “red states,” which voted Republican in this last election.”

Among the definitions by which the word “charity” is defined:

    5. benevolent feeling, esp. toward those in need or in disfavor.
    6. leniency in judging others; forbearance: She was inclined to view our selfish behavior with charity.
    7. Christian love; agape.

So the answer is NO, since Americans in general are charitable and liberals make up a very large percentage of this country.

I helped donate 56 boxes of food for our troops during Christmas, what have YOU done for them?

Liberals believe in taking care of yourself . Not accepting charity and pulling yourself up by the boot straps .
The reason we need welfare is because you arrest and jail daddy’s in the poor communities for selling products to suburban teens .
This leaves no provider so since you can not control your own kids and it leads to other kids daddy’s going to prison we think its only fair you pay for those kids .

The Bible Belt’s giving is selfish and greedy because they think it’s buying them brownie points with God. Unfortunately for them, God doesn’t give a toss because He either:
    a) Doesn’t exist, OR
    b) Is way beyond the crass, petty concerns of the average human being.

P.S. Does avoiding tax count as being “selfish & greedy” and do you have any statistics on the Republican/Democrat split on that?

Are Liberals…… blah, blah, blah. I am quite happy being a liberal: I work, pay my taxes, go to church, volunteer my time, donate money to worthy causes and most of all I am tolerant of ignorant Republicans like your self who make broad sweeping generalization about people like me. Grow up and move on.

We all know that Republicans are wealthier. Nothing new about that. What is hard to understand is why they hate the liberal people that contributed to their wealth so much? Why can’t a person live without the labels? That’s all it really is you know, labels. Greedy is another thing all together and the Republicans win this one hands down! They can afford to give away so much, because they have so much. Well good for them!

Labeling a group as a whole (liberals and conservatives alike) will never give you the true full picture. Not all conservatives are greedy but some are. Not all liberals are lazy but some are.

First, your blood donation link is bad. Second, I’ve been giving blood for YEARS and never ONCE was I asked if I was a liberal or a conservative in order to give blood, so where could these numbers POSSIBLY come from? The same crystal ball Bush saw the Troop Surge succeeding in?

Right off the bat, you invalidate your points by throwing out pseudo-scientific numbers which mean nothing.

Third, New Hampshire is the most conservative state in the country. I know, I was born and raised there.

Fourth, just because Cons CLAIM to give to charity on their taxes, that doesn’t mean the money actually WENT to the charity.

Fifth, does it happen to show the per capita income versus charitable contributions? If median income is close to poverty levels, of course contributions will lessen.

First, I second what Bert T. posted.

Second, most of the conservatives I’ve known over the years were a bunch of cheap, tight-fisted sob’s, avoiding social charities behind the guise of “personal responsibility.”

Third, we have always donated generously to local charities.

I can put my money where my mouth is. Can you?
