Question by looking_please: Are you a “giving” American?
I know I am giving til it hurts!
Please let us know if you donate to charitable causes and, if you do not mind, what nationality you are.

I don’t give to anyone voluntarily. I can’t afford it! I only take home 2/3 of my paycheck!

ever heard that story about the rich man who gives $ 100 to a homeless man but he had like $ 800000 to give and then a poor woman comes along and gives him her last penny. Who is the better person?
But, to answer your question, it depends on my mood. I never donate to charities, but usually give money to homeless people (although I’m more like the rich man, never my last penny). I like homeless people because most of them are mental cases like myself. Except they have no where to go, and they’re hated by pretty much everybody. There’s nobody there to understand them. People are just such close-minded @ssholes sometimes.

I work full time for a local non-profit that provides housing to low and very low income families. On weekends I do resumes for homeless individuals in our local homeless shelter. A couple of the smaller charities I do is Bowl for Kids Sake, Christmas for children with HIV/Aids and a couple others. You can NEVER give enough of your time. Hope this helps!

When Hurricane Katrina hit, my family went online, found out what was most needed and went to the store and bought $ 70 worth of groceries, pet food, baby formula and food, lots of water and food. Then I went to a friends house and we sorted clothing to send to Louisiana. Our town sent a truck protected by the police all the way from Vermont to Louisiana, so we brought the food and water there. There were all sorts of volunteers packing the trucks. $ 70 was about all that we could afford to donate, because my family isn’t all that rich.
We do volunteer sometimes, but my mom works ten hours a day and my dad works nights, so we don’t have much time, but we do what we can.
