Query by The Village Atheist: My fellow Atheists, the Christmas season may possibly be time?
to take into account the many advantages of our Atheist Religion:

Greater suicide rates for atheists*

Lower life expectancy for atheists **

Atheists are much less pleased ***

Atheist marriages are less happy ****

Atheist keep far more for themselves *****

Why wouldnt everyone pick the despair of atheism?

Frogma is right, it is so sad to be an atheist. Those facts are sad.

You know I’d be pretty happy if I thought I was handsome and well hung but I can’t bring myself to believe that garbage either.

Just because it makes you happy doesn’t make it true.

I’m sorry, you’re both a liar and incorrect. Merry Xmas my Christian brother.

I’m seeing ‘Less happy’ a lot here.

In comparison to what? The happy sunshine, pink unicorn, happy clappy, can’t wait to die and go to heaven, candy floss brigade?

If so, yeah. Those stats are probably right.

The ‘ignorance is bliss’ phrase comes to mind. The reason i’m personally less happy than some is because I actually have goals in life that i’m yet to achieve. I’m not sat on a d!ck assuming I get another shot at this. When I finally reach those goals, I’ll be happy clapper too.

The suicide bit doesn’t bother me, I’m not about to.

Lower life, but in reality more life, because we didn’t waste it talking to our imaginary friends.

I’m rarely unhappy, so that doesn’t apply either.

I don’t see the point in marriage anyway.

And your last point is the best of all.
If gods aren’t real, and the Christian god certainly isn’t, then the vast amount of money wasted on religion makes it the biggest confidence trick ever commited. If all that money was given away world hunger would be solved.

We have higher suicide rates because we’re not threatened with Hell if we kill ourselves, you have plenty of miserable Christians, they’re just afraid to kill themselves.

If marriages are less happy why are atheist divorce rates lower?

Why are the biggest donors to charity (Bill Gates for example) atheists? You’ll find the average Christian “donates” more because they’re churches are all charities to avoid paying taxes, so who really keeps more for themselves?

But you’re right in some ways, it’s difficult having to live in the real world, but we get by.

Still, if you have anything from an unbiased source I’d be happy to hear it.

“Higher suicide rates for atheists” – this is true. Claiming to be an atheist in some countries is tantamount to suicide, even in this day and age. See: stoning

“Lower life expectancy for atheists” – excuse me?!? Redwood trees don’t believe in God, and neither do Giant Tortoises, both of which have a longer life expectancy than any theist ever has.

“Atheists are less happy” – so says the book “Psychology and Christianity”, written by three hardcore Christians. Google their names. Seriously. A world of Southern Baptism awaits you.

“Atheist marriages are less happy” – Rubbish. No marriage is happy.

“Atheist keep more for themselves” – of course! We don’t get tithed. This not only leaves us with more disposable income, it leaves us with more to give to charity! We keep more, because we have more*. :)

*Not me though. I’m skint. o_q

    * Duh! Of course suicide rates are higher for atheists. As an atheist, I feel it is my right to do with my life as I please, including killing myself. Would you prefer a god to give you a gift freely, then try tell you what to do with it?

** Religion was invented to relieve the stress of knowing one is mortal, to help the human mind deal with the “end of Self”. Those who have to deal with the truth of mortality—rather than hiding from it like a child—are under more stress. That’s a fact.

*** Perhaps the atheists are more likely to be honest about their unhappiness, if such is the case. The studies plainly state that “those who are depressed and introverted do not attend church”, and are thus lumped as “atheists” because they claim “no religious affiliations”. Pathetic twisting of words/meanings.

    **** Ditto.

***** Again—and it seems those “analyzing” the surveys results were biased—those who are depressed/introverted, and thus insulated, do not often associate with religious groups, and are thus labeled as “atheist” by the survey.

The age old question remains, “Would you rather be happy or right?” If ignorance is the source of your bliss, then by all means, remain ignorant.
