Its a regressive tax program, meaning it hurts the poor the most, like sales taxes. Democrats love to screw the sheeple who are clueless and keep voting for them. $ 50 a month extra in utility costs hurts the poor the most, including millions of elderaly living on Social Security, most right now under $ 1,500 a month. In California, three years ago the wealthy were stripped out 1.5 billion in extra taxes, now its the poor sheeple's turn, as the sales tax went up 1% This Cap and Trade will also screw the middle class, 3 million of them, by depriving them of jobs, while delivering 150,000 new jobs. Also add to the mix maybe another half a million or so foreclosures, as this extra cost will tip the iceberg for them. What a wonderful Democrat way to help the economy in a recession.

Hey, just read 'onlooker's answer. He/she is singing all the right notes, because the propaganda has had it's desired effect on them. It will 'create jobs', etc. etc. Which is good, since pretty much everyone in the family, including the cat, will have to work to pay the energy bills when this abomination (cap and trade) becomes law.

Ask you local electric or gas company, they are the ones raising the costs. And their increased revenue helps them.

There is no increase due to Obama, and energy skyrocketed last year. Next time we are foolish enough to believe the oil producing companies who control us, we will, hopefully, have a workable alternative. In fact when they know we are taking seriously the look for an alternative, they may not feel the urge to raise their prices until they find the maximum we will tolerate.

Any cost increase will be spread out over time. This is the way the US should be going, I am sick and tired of being dependent on other countries and their fossil fuels. This step will help the US to become independent and use cleaner fuels. This should have happened years ago. People in the US are so spoiled, they want and want but do not want to sacrifice anything for a better future for themselves or children.*

You see, Obama has a plan, and if the experiment does not work, what the f, he will be out of office anyway.

Obama is a naive idealist fool (and closet militant, along with his sidekick Mich) and that makes him very Dangerous to the welfare of this country. As usual, Dems are far too uninformed and oblivious to have the slightest clue as to the damage this guy (and his Admin.) can inflict. Unfortunately, this country and all of us will suffer dearly for this period of liberal insanity.

How is paying 2 trillion dollars a year for foreign oil in 10 years going to help us if we don't do this?
You people have got to stop knee-jerk reacting to issues you know nothing about. That bill still has to get through the senate which won't get done until later this year when we're pulling out of the recession, and beyond that everything is phased in over YEARS with incentives for energy companies to not pass the cost onto consumers.
When it comes out of the Senate, it will also be watered down, so we really don't know what the final bill will look like anyway.
If you people would only take time to understand the issues, we could all have an intelligent conversation about this.
Why do you insist on regurgitating nonsense the partisan media feeds you without thinking for yourselves?

By giving people cleaner air, by reducing our costly dependence on foreign oil, by creating 1000s of new jobs in alternative energy, by creating new technologies that could generate a stock market boon like the internet did, by helping reduce a possible catastrophic global warming cycle, etc. The costs will go up an average of $ 175/year at first, but then will come down as new alternative energy as invented, as factories are developed for mass production, and as products start using alternative energy. Eventually, with our own home grown energy, we should expect to see significant energy savings. (The sun, wind, and sea are cheaper than gas and oil from the Middle East.)
