Query by Superwoman: When you are donating clothes to GOODWILL OR SAVERS, is that “donating to charity?”?

Yes. Nonetheless if this is for tax purposes, I am not certain that counts as it is not a monetary donation.

    Yes it is

    and they will give you a “receipt” to fill in what you donated and put an approx cost on it for your taxes.

    Goodwill? Yes. Savers? No. Savers is a for-profit company, not a charity.

    Anything you donate to the needy, that goes directly to the needy is charity. If someonemakes a profit from it ,it is not charity. unless the profit is used in direct support of the needy.I suggest finding a local family that can use the items you are trying ti rid yourself of and giving it directly to them. If you don’t personally know a needy family drop them at a community help center or ask them to locate a needy family for you
