Question by dontwasteyourtime: If I teach totally free yoga classes in the park but “accept donations,” do I nonetheless want a permit?
It would be a cost-free session. But I would accept optional donations for the class or bottled water. Does that sound like I would need a permit?

No, you do not need a permit. You can simply sit down and do yoga, and if people choose to give you money for following what you do as you attempt to teach them yoga, that is their business. The law can do nothing about a person merely giving money to another person.

Here in Queensland Australia (gold coast) the council is planing on setting restrictions or bans on even free groups operating in public parks. But in your case, it’s usually the case that if any money changes hands then you may need a permit. Contact your local council for more info.

All depends on the attitude of the cops and people in the area. Most likely the cops won’t do anything unless someone complains.
