Question by larry o: why do news media individuals refer to charity as “give back” to their community?
Doesnt that imply that a individual really “took” a thing?…if you have a job, pay your taxes and are a productive member of society..isnt charity just giving?..i dont see a productive individual “taking”..therefore feeling the require to “give back”…..i see it as “earning what they have?…

Perhaps they must just modify the phrase to “giving to the community.” I am pretty confident there was logic behind the original phrase, but its lost on me.
