Question by Finish Fed, Ron Paul Revolution!!!: Do Liberals confuse “giving back” and “redistribution of wealth”?
You see capitalism and charity are 100% capatible. I am all for individuals giving to charities and assist individuals out, but I am strongly against forced redistribution of wealth by means of the governmet. People ought to be able to decide on what to do with the hard earned funds.

And that is exactly why you should always vote for Democrats. Democrats want to help you keep more of your hard earned money.

    No.

Why do conservatives confuse thieves like charles keating, neal bush, ken lay and bernie madoff with the corporate welfare “bailout”?

    No, but you obviously do.

I have a small problem with my hard earned tax dollars funding a war with a country who did nothing to us, for the profit of a very few.

Yes, many people assume that welfare = charity. They refuse to recognize that forced taxation for the supposed purpose of helping others ultimately leads to resentment… especially when the people have no say in where their money goes, or even if it really helps someone in need. We’re supposed to feel good about it, just as we do when we voluntarily give of our money and/or time to help a cause that we believe in to make a difference in people’s lives.

I see capitalism as a lie to get people to give rich or well-connected people their ideas so they may better steal them.

And if Republicans really supported then why do they support disenfranchising the inner cities and third world; wouldn’t they do better to create them a system which allows for people to bring their ideas to their superiors, and thus improve the economies of both, improving both the U.S. economy directly and the Global economy through the 3rd world’s capitalism

Agreed. Redistribution of the wealth is a horrible idea. Just like you said i do not mind helping people in need however, I do not want to help people who want to sit at home and do nothing productive in or for society. I do not want to support human sponges.

Um to that second answer, dems do not want you to keep your ahrd earned money.

If you knew anything reublicans traditionally favor tax cuts and utilize trickle down economics which is what the poster is talkign about, I earn money and thend ecide waht to do with it. Not new president spend hundreds of billions on what he thinks is fair and then we pay him back.

Why do you always confuse our failed capitalist-based system with charity?

    Neither one is truly compatible.

    You just think it is.

Every citizen, republican or Democrat, pay taxes, and it is forced. Quit your whining and blaming everything on Democrats. Didn’t hear you complaining when GW was spending billions a month in Iraq! I guess it’s okay as long as a GOP’er tells you how to spend your money, but not a democrat.

Yes. They believe charity should be mandated. Hope that they are ready to drop the word from Webster’s. As soon as it’s MANDATED, it is no longer charity.

They don’t mind giving as long as it is someones elses money.
They also seem to confuse fact with fantasy.

What if I chose not to have a military or paved roads or auto insurance? Any tax could be considered redistribution. We have democratically decided as a country that there are social goods to which we will contribute toward. Water facilities, airports and yes even food stamps are examples. Society finds common value in not having people starve.

If you want to go off the grid have at it, that is Your choice. Good luck

    I am liberal…but, I agree with you.

You should not punish someone for being successful….by taxing them more.

I liked Steve Forbes idea of a flat tax….do not let the wealthy hire attorneys and lawyers to find loop holes…but, likewise make every one pay a fair share.

I do not believe in the bailouts either…of the individuals that made poor choices by buying more house than they could truly afford….nor, of the banks that loaned money to people, they knew could not repay.
We are rewarding the very people that got us into this mess.

As I heard the other day….I don’t mind helping people who will carry the water too….but, I’m tired of being forced to give to those who only drink the water…and never carry

I’m happy to– and do– donate to charities that I like or have a connection to. But I don’t like giving my money to a middleman (the gov’t, Obama) and then having them distribute it. Anyone who knows anything about business sees the problem in this.

There is quite a large difference between hard earned money and just pure greed, and the problem is these extremely greedy people are one of the main reasons our economy is in this insanity it is currently. Regular people are losing their jobs and homes everywhere for reasons pretty much out of their control and I don’t see any of your “hard worker” giving out any charity so in the end I don’t really care if it’s called “giving back”, “redistribution of wealth”, or just plain “Socialism.” The people that are responsible for this should have to make some amends. We are by no means putting them in the poor house. Hopefully we have learned that you can’t deregulate the economy too much and expect greedy people to keep it running smoothly.

About as much as Conservatives confuse true capitalism and our form of economics in this nation.

Like Bernacki said (and this is probably the smartest thing the man has ever uttered), you can punish your neighbor for smoking in bed by not calling the fire department, but what good does it do when it burns down all the houses on your block? What lesson was learned there??

Amen to that! They’re not confused, they know exactly what they’re doing! But, they’re trying to convince us that it’s right thing to do! I give to charities, and food banks all the time, but now I’m not going to be able to, because I’m going to have to put that towards taxes for the gov. to distribute, and the things they want to give the money to, for the most part, I don’t agree with! It’s bullsh*t!

No , I don’t believe they do. I suspect Liberals are very much engaged with charities, both donating money as well as time. The redistribution of wealth in America has been going on for over 100 years years in the form of Federal, state and local taxes. A small amount goes to actual poor, while society as whole benefits from infrastructure, schools, research, military, etc. This redistribution adds immensely to our standard of living as well keeping us from being like, say, Albania.

You are right that capitalism and charity are 100% compatible, however when the average citizen’s charity dollars are not enough to cover the essentials: fire dept, police dept., bridges, libraries, schools, hurricane relief, tornado relief, etc. It then becomes necessary to have a larger pot to work with, hence taxes. For many years my family has contributed to the Catholic church and there are many great catholic charities, however I never got a vote on where the money I gave went. Don’t remember it going towards firemen or policemen or town hall; went to church buildings, church schools.

I don’t know, what does “giving back” mean? Maybe if I understood the term I could distinguish it from communism.
